Some people obviously can't handle big money...

Over the years, cases of athletes declaring bankruptcies, even though they had earned tens and hundreds of millions throughout their careers, have been numerous. And while almost all sports and leagues have had their "examples," the NBA seems to be a leader in this infamous category.

The list of NBA players who used to spend their vast fortunes on houses, apartments, cars, planes, yachts, girls, and parties goes on and on, but have you ever heard of a player who has earned tens of millions and owes money to a barber and a dentist?

No, right? Well, now you will. Meet Malik Beasley.

The 26-year-old, born in Atlanta, entered the league in 2016 when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets, with whom he spent the following four years. Since leaving the Colorado franchise in 2020, he has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Detroit Pistons, with whom he reached the playoffs last season.

In 2021, he faced felony gun charges and even spent some time in prison, while the league suspended him for 12 games. However, now he is in the middle of another scandal.

Even though he earned around $60 million in his NBA career so far, shocking information about Beasley's debts recently appeared, claiming that he owed money to a barbershop and a dentist in Milwaukee!

According to reports, he did not owe them for their favours, but for loans he took in the amount of approximately $60,000. Furthermore, he owes over $2 million to a sports agency, although the initial amount he was obliged to pay before a lawsuit was $650,000, while his landlord and lender are also on the creditors list. In total, he allegedly owes over $8 million!

The aforementioned barber and dentist reportedly got their money, but only when they sued him.

Now, one may wonder how a vastly paid NBA player reaches a point where he has to borrow the amount he earns in a day, and the answer is simple - gambling.

Hence, the league opened an investigation on the matter, while the Detroit Pistons put on hold the talks about the $42 million worth three-year deal they had wanted to sign with Beasley.

If he is found guilty of wrongdoings and breaching NBA rules regarding betting and gambling, Beasley could be banned from the league for life, as the same thing happened to ex-Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter just a year ago.

What a way to ruin a promising career...
